Rule of Law Development Foundation: Webinar on Youth Development and its role in Nation Building-Contemporary Nigeria as a Case Study.

by caneadmin

OVERVIEW

All over the world, the Youth are recognised as the engine room of the development of any nation. This is because they are young, active, vibrant, agile, potentially ingenious and industrious category of the population of a Nation. In other climes, the military, industrial, agrarian, economic and political potential of such countries resides in the youth who are conservatively assessed as being all persons, male and female, between the ages of 16 and 49. Youth, worldwide are seen as the ladder for the achievement of greater and more visible development that transforms nations. Indeed, most advanced nations select their political and economic leaders from this age bracket. The examples are legion. The last Paris Olympics demonstrated the versatility of youthfulness and its ability to win laurels and fame for serious countries with serious-minded youth.ย

Unfortunately, a large percentage of African and for our purposes here Nigerian youth, today are not living up to their full potentials. They make infinitesimal contribution to national growth. They are punching far below their potential capabilities. They are over-entitled and expect to be accorded rights and privileges far above what they can bring to the national table. Some genuinely are relegated to the background due to the vision deficiency of our corrupt political leadership in that no provision is made in the political firmament for the advancement of qualitative education, good health policy and other relevant indices of youth empowerment. ย ย

But do these identified lapses explain why majority of the youth have totally missed the way? Can it be explained away by accusing those in Government as being responsible for the present state of our youth? Are they (Government and Elders) responsible for the high rate of drug (narcotic) abuse, alcoholism, waywardness, sexual perversion, criminality and criminal lifestyle that our youth have wholeheartedly embraced?ย

The essence of this discourse (webinar) is to interrogate the fault lines in our youth development program and its impact on our national growth. The lead presenter (Reverend Father George Ehusani) is expected to assess the problem and make a valuation as to whether our plight is redeemable or whether we have hit rock bottom. Whatever the appraisal may be and we at the Foundation know that it is dismal, we are counting on our esteemed resource person(s) to provide a way or ways out of this dilemma. Consequently, the nation anticipates a formular that incorporates a wholistic and balanced development of different aspects and facets of the Nationโ€™s political, economic, social, cultural, scientific and material inputs into the thought process of our leaders and the youth themselves.

Do we i.e., Nigeria require now, a revamped and revitalised National Youth Policy with the aim of promoting the enjoyment of fundamental human rights and protect the health, social, economic and political well-being of all young men and women to enhance their participation in the overall development process and improve their quality of life?

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE WEBINAR

The Rule of Law Development Foundation (ROLDF) inter alia is very passionate about positive Nation building. The Foundation as always, fosters the observance of the Rule of Law, the eradication of criminality and the development of the Nigerian youth. This passion is glaring in all the past webinars, conferences, and projects (e.g. Project Hope for the Boy Child (P-HFBC)) organized by the Foundation. Youth development is a huge and continuous task. Therefore, the foundation preaches that all hands are needed to be on deck for this project. The Government, NGOs (such as the ROLDF), Schools, and of course Families, are well encouraged to meet the desired goal.

Theย objectives of this webinar include:

โ€ขโ€‚To draw the attention of the Government to the dire need of youth development for Nation building.

โ€ขโ€‚To enlighten the Nation on the importance of continuous youth development.

โ€ขโ€‚To emphasize the need for increased and vigorous provision of Training, Mentorship, Skill Acquisition, Advocacy, Health care, etc., as tools for youth development.
