REQUIREMENTS FOR LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION: HIGH COURT OF THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, ABUJA

They are:

  1. Death certificate (Original and Photocopy)
  2. If a serving Civil/Public servant – Letter of introduction of Next of Kin from the Deceased Office introducing the Next of Kin (addressed to the Probate Registrar, FCT High Court of Justice, Maitama, Abuja. If self- employed/ retired – Record of service or marriage certificate /declaration of marriage.

3. Minimum of 2 Next of kin (who must come in person) with one passport photograph each and a photocopy of their means of identification (International passport, national ID, NIN, Voter’s card, Drivers’ Licence etc)

4. Two sureties (who must come in person and will always be available for questioning and confirmation) with one passport photograph each and photocopy of their means of identification. (International passport, national ID, NIN, Voter’s card, Drivers’ Licence).

5. Things you can access:

  • Money in the bank- You need bank names and account details
  • Pension- You need name of Pension Managers of the deceased and Pension number.
  • National Housing Fund deductions
  • Landed properties- You need photocopies and original for citing
  • Stock/shares – Share certificate

6. Payments to be made-

  • Application fee of N5, 500. (Oath fees)
  • Publication fee of N5,000
  • Landed property- N50, 000 for each property.

7. Procedure:

  • Application letter addressed to the Chief Registrar, FCT High Court of Justice.
  • After few days, all the Next of kin and sureties will report at the probate registry to fill a data form and make all payments. The information provided on the data form will be imputed into the system.
  • Defence: Here, sureties are questioned, ID checks, original documents are checked etc. This concludes the process. The wait & follow-up starts.
