Meaning and connotation of ‘Proof beyond reasonable doubt’

‘Proof beyond reasonable doubt’ means the prosecution establishing the guilt of the accused person with compelling and conclusive evidence. It means a degree of compulsion that is consistent with a high degree of probability. Proof beyond reasonable doubt does not mean Proof beyond all doubt or all shadow of doubt. [Shurumo v. State (2010) 19 NWLR (Pt. 1226) 73; Kassam v. State (2017) LPELR – 42586 referred to.] (P. 199, paras. D-E)
